Subnautica · Solo Survival
No story, no endings, no spoilers — just what to do when the ocean has made you forget what you were doing, and what to scan before you go deeper.
You crashed the Aurora into an alien ocean and the only way home is down. Scan fragments to build the Seamoth, Cyclops and PRAWN Suit, follow every radio signal, and descend through the Lost River to the Inactive Lava Zone, where the Primary Containment Facility holds the cure. Clear the infection, build the Neptune rocket, and get off the planet. First Hours is the spoiler-light orientation; Full Progression is the chapter-by-chapter walkthrough with every vehicle, scan and story beat; Materials & Upgrades is the mining and sustenance reference. Every tick saves on this device as you go.
The ocean is very good at making us forget what we were doing. This is the one-screen overview we check when that happens.
Not all fragments are equal. Some are ambient — you'll trip over them. Others are in specific rooms that are easy to skip entirely. Hunt these deliberately before leaving each zone.
This page walks the whole game and names every story beat, alien site and the ending. If you have not played it, start on the First Hours tab above — it stays spoiler-light.
In the order we'll need them. Primary zone is where to focus. Side zones are options when the primary runs thin.

We need to eat and drink. The ocean provides — once we know where to look and how to process what we find.
| Source | Where to Find It | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Filtered Water | Water Filtration Machine (base appliance) | Best long-term solution — build one early and forget about thirst |
| Disinfected Water | Bladderfish processed in fabricator | Bladderfish everywhere in Safe Shallows — grab them constantly |
| Large Filtered Water | Water Filtration Machine | Higher hydration value, same machine |
| Coffee (Stimpack) | Marblemelon + fabricator | Also restores food — grow Marblemelon in a plant pot |
| Fish | Primary Zone | Also Found In | How to Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peeper | Safe Shallows | Grassy Plateaus, Kelp Forest | Eat raw or cooked — best early nutrition per catch |
| Bladderfish | Safe Shallows | Kelp Forest | Process in fabricator for Disinfected Water — don't eat it |
| Garryfish | Safe Shallows | Grassy Plateaus | Cook it — raw gives mild food poisoning |
| Reginald | Kelp Forest | Grassy Plateaus, Mushroom Forest | Highest food value when cooked — the reliable mid-game staple |
| Oculus | Mushroom Forest | Kelp Forest | Good cooked food value, easy to catch in open water |
| Hoopfish | Safe Shallows | Grassy Plateaus | Solid nutrition cooked, catchable early |
| Spadefish | Underwater Islands | Mushroom Forest | Good food when cooked, mid-depth availability |
| Food | How to Get It | Why Bother |
|---|---|---|
| Marblemelon | Grow in plant pot or exterior growbed | Restores both food and water — genuinely excellent, plant multiples |
| Bulbo Tree Sample | Grow from sample (Mushroom Forest) | Restores food and water, low effort once planted |
| Cooked Fish (any) | Fabricator + any fish | Always cook rather than eat raw — food value roughly doubles |
| Nutrient Block | Fabricator — requires table coral, blood oil | Emergency ration, doesn't spoil, useful for long dives |
