Assassin's Creed · Tourist Route
No level, no XP, no gates — Unity is the friendliest AC to tourist through. The main-story path through Revolution Paris, and the handful of cheap skills that make it easy.
Paris is the point — the story is the tour. Unity has no player level and no mission gates, so a main-story-only run is completely viable. Ignore every optional objective (they award nothing but a sync stat). Buy Staggering Strike at Sequence 2 and learn the God Combo; renovate the Café Théâtre at Sequence 3. First Hours is the systems primer; Tourist Route is the full path; Skills & Gear is where to spend points and money. Every tick saves on this device as you go.
Paris is the point — the story is the tour. Ignore every optional objective (they give nothing). At Sequence 2 buy Staggering Strike and learn the God Combo: parry → staggering strike → quickshot. At Sequence 3 renovate the Café Théâtre's first two floors. Loot bodies as you walk. That's the entire optimisation.
Unity has no player level and no mission gates. There is no XP bar. Nothing blocks you for being "underlevelled" because there is no level to be under. Your only real power sources are a handful of cheap skills and your gear — so a main-story-only run is completely viable.
Light. Covers the opening sequences and the systems only. For the full 12-sequence route + live checklist use the Tourist Route tab; for skills and gear, Skills & Gear.
Tally your opening hours. Items marked ↔ shared also live on the Tourist Route or Skills & Gear tabs — tick them anywhere and they stay in sync.
Parry → Staggering Strike → Quickshot while they're down. Widely described as the fastest way to kill anything in the game at any difficulty (Brutes excepted). Staggering Strike costs 2 skill points and unlocks at Sequence 2. Learn this and combat stops being a problem for the rest of the run.
A headshot from any projectile is always a one-shot kill, on any enemy, on any difficulty. The Phantom Blade (Sequence 4) is silent and scales off your Main Hand + Sidearm attack damage — so upgrading your weapons also upgrades your ranged assassination.
Unity's threats are simple once you know the reply to each. Almost everything below is solved by not fighting fair.
| Threat | The answer |
|---|---|
| Common soldiers | The God Combo: parry, Staggering Strike, quickshot while they're down. Never brawl a whole crowd by choice. |
| Snipers & marksmen | A projectile headshot one-shots them at any difficulty. Take the perch away before you drop in. |
| Brutes (heavy, cannot be countered) | Do not trade blows. Stun them, or kill from range with the Phantom Blade or a headshot, then close in. Brutes are the one exception to the God Combo. |
| Groups & alarmed crowds | Disengage. Smoke bomb, Environmental Blending, reset to stealth. Getting swarmed kills you regardless of gear. |
The tree opens at Sequence 2. These six are cheap, available immediately, and carry the whole run — 12 points total.
| Skill | Cost | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Staggering Strike | 2 | The God Combo keystone. Buy first. |
| Environmental Blending | 1 | Vanish by sitting or leaning. One point. Absurd value. |
| Ranged Weapon | 1 | Unlocks pistols/muskets at all. Non-negotiable. |
| Thick Skin | 2 | Cheapest survivability in the game. |
| Apprentice Locksmith | 2 | Opens doors and red chests. Route options + money. |
| Double Assassination | 4 | Makes the whole game noticeably more manageable. |
Costs 4 points and shares Eagle Vision with allied players. It is co-op only and useless in single player — and the name gives you no warning. Skip. Same for Group Healing (10) and Assassin Cache (10).
Arno's childhood, the Estates General, then prison. The skill tree opens on release. Buy Staggering Strike immediately — everything after this is easier for it.
Your hub, your income and a fast-travel node. Renovate the Ground Floor (100 livres) and Hall (250) the moment it unlocks — 350 total, and it starts earning passively while you play the story. The bank fills every 20 minutes of play and stops accruing when full, so collect from the chest in the Intendant's Study whenever you pass.
Every blue (Companion App) and gold (Initiates) chest in Paris was permanently unlocked for all players by a patch. Ubisoft removed the requirement and delisted the app back in 2015. Stale guides still claim you need a phone app — you don't. Walk up and open them.
There is no level to grind. Spend your first 12 points on Staggering Strike, Environmental Blending, Ranged Weapon, Thick Skin, Apprentice Locksmith and Double Assassination. Prioritise Stealth stats over Melee — Unity's fights are the dangerous part, so skip them. Fund it all with the Café Théâtre, not with side quests.
Gear is bought, and every piece can be upgraded once — the upgrade is substantial. It is usually better to save for one strong late piece than to buy several weak ones. Since money is the real bottleneck, the Café Théâtre is your leveling system.
Tick each purchase as you make it. This checklist is ACU-specific and saves as you go.
25 skills, 4 trees, 129 points to buy everything — which you will not do, and do not need to. Gated by sequence, not by level.
| Skill | Cost | Opens | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Staggering Strike | 2 | Seq 2 | ★★★ The God Combo keystone. The single best purchase in the game. |
| Environmental Blending | 1 | Seq 2 | ★★★ Vanish by sitting/leaning. One point. |
| Ranged Weapon | 1 | Seq 2 | ★★★ Unlocks firearms at all. |
| Thick Skin | 2 | Seq 2 | ★★★ Cheapest survivability. |
| Apprentice Locksmith | 2 | Seq 2 | ★★ Doors + red chests. Stop here — don't buy the rest of the tree. |
| Double Assassination | 4 | Seq 2 | ★★★ Makes the game much more manageable. |
| Stun Grenades | 2 | Seq 2 | ★★ Guaranteed assassination on an alerted guard. |
| Disguise | 6 | Seq 2 | ★★★ Walk into restricted areas. Non-lethal takedowns don't break it and can be chained. |
| Roll Recovery | 2 | Seq 5 | ★★ Unity drops you off roofs constantly. |
| Thicker Skin | 5 | Seq 5 | ★★ Cheap, stacks. |
| Double Air Assassination | 4 | Seq 5 | ★ Situational but strong. |
Communal Sense (4) — shares Eagle Vision with allied players. Co-op only. Useless solo. Group Healing (10) and Assassin Cache (10) — co-op oriented, and 10 points is a huge chunk of a tourist budget. Money Pouch (2) — widely rated the worst skill in the game. Journeyman (6) + Master Locksmith (9) — 15 points for money the Café already gives you.
No skill is required to progress the main story. Free-running, climbing and Eagle Vision are all baseline abilities — not purchases. Roll Recovery is comfort, not a gate.
Five stat-bearing slots plus a Main Weapon, a Sidearm, and a purely cosmetic Outfit slot. Everything is buyable from the menu anywhere and swappable any time you're not in combat.
| Slot | What it governs |
|---|---|
| Head | Stamina, Eagle Vision range/duration, loot money |
| Chest | Health, defense, restricted-area detection time, blend time |
| Forearms | Phantom / Berserk blade ammo capacity |
| Waist | Health, medicine / bomb / ammo capacity |
| Legs | Stamina, fall damage, running & falling noise |
Priority: Stealth ≫ Health > Melee. Unity's combat is the slow, dangerous, death-prone part of the game — stealth stats let you skip it entirely. Chase restricted-area detection and blend time on the chest, noise reduction on the legs, and smoke bomb capacity on the belt. The Sans-Culottes chest is the standout pick and pairs with the Disguise skill.
The Outfit slot is cosmetic only — it swaps your visual for a Legacy skin and carries no stats. This is unique to Unity and it catches everyone. Your armour is the five slots above.
Unlocks at Sequence 3. The full renovation chain costs 21,350 livres and each renovation unlocks a mission that pays cash and permanently boosts your income multiplier.
| Renovation | Cost | Unlocks | Mission pays |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ground Floor | 100 | Colette | 400 |
| Hall | 250 | Damsel in Seamstress | 1,400 |
| Exterior | 1,000 | The Queen's Necklace | 2,500 |
| Upper Floors | 5,000 | Foxy Renard | 25,000 |
| Finishing Touches | 15,000 | — | — |
Foxy Renard alone pays more than the entire renovation chain costs. Do Ground Floor + Hall (350 livres) the moment the Café unlocks, then let it run. Income deposits every 20 minutes of play and stops when the bank is full — collect from the Intendant's Study whenever you pass.
Co-op missions award 2–3 skill points plus 3 gear items just for finishing, and you can start them alone by choosing "private match" from the pause menu. They aren't balanced for solo and are genuinely hard, so take one or two low-diamond ones early for the points and stop. Heists pay enormously (25,000 base + up to 45,000 bonus) but a solo tourist can't crack a 5-diamond heist early — if you have a friend, one heist funds the entire playthrough in 15 minutes.
Unity buries a lot of optional content and the UI pushes all of it. Here is the whole tourist verdict in one table.
| Content | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Café Théâtre renovations | ★★★ Must-do | The two cheap tiers pay for the whole run. Foxy Renard alone out-earns the entire chain. |
| Dead Kings (free DLC) | ★★★ Must-do | Free, self-contained, the best atmosphere in the game. The natural cap to a tourist route. |
| Co-op / heists (soloed) | ★★ Worth one or two | Only for the 2–3 skill points each. Hard solo, so grab a couple low-diamond ones early and stop. |
| Free blue / gold chests | ★★ Worth it in passing | Patch-unlocked for everyone. Free money, zero detour. Open them as you walk by. |
| Optional objectives | 🔴 Skip | Award nothing but a sync percentage. No points, no gear, no money. |
| Nomad / Helix rifts, murder mysteries, collectibles | 🔴 Skip | Pure completionist content. None of it feeds the tourist run. |
A comfortable tourist finishes Unity with maybe 25–35 skill points spent, a stealth-weighted armour set with one or two pieces upgraded, and a Café quietly printing livres. There is no "right" endgame number because there is no level — you're done when Robespierre falls, at roughly 15–20 hours. Then Dead Kings adds ~3.5 more, for free.
